CosMos is a phenomenal book, encompassing a breadth of vision that is truly illuminating. From the Earth to the stars, the micro- to the macro-scopic, and from the most ancient spiritual wisdoms to the latest frontier science — this book has it all. With reams of research to back them up, co-authors Ervin Lazlo and Jude Currivan make the case for a world and a universe that is intelligent, holigraphic, and conscious.
While scientists may labor away toward the goal of a comprehensive “Theory of Everything,” Lazlo and Currivan sound they’re getting close — CosMos presents an all inclusive cosmology that starts with the birth of the universe and continues up to our current time and the evolutionary shift that is upon us now. If it sounds like the authors are getting ahead of themselves, or the scientists, it’s because they are taking the broader view, compiling many different research studies — more than any one scientist could focus on — and coming up with startling results.
The common thread is consciousness, and the growing evidence that the universe is a primordial field of intelligence, energy and information that is interlinked with us and every other thing in the universe. The research is fascinating: it covers everything from the golden ratio to near death experiences, from complex systems to ESP — and it all points to a growing coherence, or oneness that is expressed at all scales of existence — in other words, a cosmic order.
Lazlo and Currivan call this primordial field the “A-field,” for the Sanskrit Akashic field, and they present evidence that this field is conscious and inter-linked in a manner that is non-local, that is, beyond space and time and matter. If they are right, this A-field is an endless field of information from which manifests all that we consider reality. The field is harmonic and holographic, and that means that we, and our Earth, are a part of it. Not only that, but we may be one of the ways in which this intelligence is exploring it’s own consciousness — through experience. We are interlinked, and in fact, the co-creators of all that surrounds us. According to Lazlo and Currivan, our sole mission as humans is to facilitate and empower the growing consciousness and evolution of our Universe, on its journey to know itself.
The research is compelling, but the best part is that taken together it is profoundly hopeful and empowering. We, the whole Earth, are at a critical point right now — hovering on the edge of what the authors call “Breakdown or Breakthrough.” Awakening to, and acknowledging our role in this collective shift is essential if we are going to create the future world that we desire. Lazlo and Currivan point to the awakening that is already happening — the growing grass roots organizations, the return to core values and a simpler lifestyle — as the next step in our evolution. Increased trends toward changing our ways, reconnecting to the Earth, and cooperating with each other may hold the key to our successful emergence, moving us to what the universe wants from us — oneness.
