Before I really begin this article, I want to share with you some excerpts from An Inconvenient Truth's website:

"With 2005, the worst storm season ever experienced in America just behind us, it seems we may be reaching a tipping point - and Gore pulls no punches in explaining the dire situation. Interspersed with the bracing facts and future predictions is the story of Gore's personal journey: from an idealistic college student who first saw a massive environmental crisis looming; to a young Senator facing a harrowing family tragedy that altered his perspective, to the man who almost became President but instead returned to the most important cause of his life - convinced that there is still time to make a difference."

A recap on what Global Warming is:

" Carbon dioxide and other gases warm the surface of the planet naturally by trapping solar heat in the atmosphere. This is a good thing because it keeps our planet habitable. However, by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil and clearing forests we have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere and temperatures are rising.

The vast majority of scientists agree that global warming is real, it’s already happening and that it is the result of our activities and not a natural occurrence. The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.

We’re already seeing changes. Glaciers are melting, plants and animals are being forced from their habitat, and the number of severe storms and droughts is increasing. "

Something drastic needed to be done to catch the world's attention.  Sure we can all help by doing the little things that impact our environment globally, but someone needed to get through to everybody; and Al Gore, using his position heroically, has done just that.

Here are some statistics that show the severity of this reality:

  • The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes has

almost doubled in the last 30 years.

  • Malaria has spread to higher altitudes in

places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet

above sea level.

  • The flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland

has more than doubled over the past decade.

  • At least 279 species of plants and animals

are already responding to global warming, moving

closer to the poles.

If the warming keeps up, we can expect consequences of catastophic proportions.

  • Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years -- to 300,000 people a year.
  • Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antarctica, devastating coastal areas worldwide.
  • Heat waves will be more frequent and more intense.
  • Droughts and wildfires will occur more often.
  • The Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050.
  • More than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by 2050.
What we have to realize, which many of us may already have, is that this is NOT about politics.  This is about taking moral responsibilty for our actions against the Earth.  The facts are facts, not propaganda, and we as Americans need to face up to the reality and the gravity of this situation.

A majority of scientists who disagree with this film are those concerned only with politics, and not the welfare of this planet and its citizens.

We have to ask ourselves, what is more important: Money, cars, oil, and luxury - or our children, grandchildren, and future?

Also note that An Inconvenient Truth is the first carbon-neutral documentary.  Here is an excerpt from a blog on the movie's website:

“Paramount Classics, Participant Productions, and NativeEnergy have joined forces to offset 100% of the carbon dioxide emissions from air and ground transportation and hotels for production and promotional activities associated with the documentary “AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH” making the film the first carbon-neutral documentary ever….

NativeEnergy, which works with individuals and organizations to help them compensate for their contributions to global warming, calculated the “carbon footprint” from producing “AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH”, including all travel, office, and accommodations related emissions. The company then offset emissions through renewable energy credits or “green tags from new renewable energy projects. Paramount Classics and Participant will split the cost of these tags; the funds will go towards helping build new Native American, Alaskan Native Village, and farmer-owned renewable energy projects, creating sustainable economies for communities in need and diversifying our energy supply.” ( http://www.climatecrisis.net/blog/?p=15 )

This is the film that is going to change our world.  Everyone should see it, there's no reason not to.  Please visit the website and pledge to see it, take your friends and family, and most importantly, take action

As said best in a review of this film by ROGER EBERT :

"In 39 years, I have never written these words in a movie review, but here they are: You owe it to yourself to see this film. If you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you decided not to."
