With worldwide attention being given to the environment and changes occuring to the planet, Earth Day 2010 will be a very busy event!

No one can ignore the controversy of Climate Change and Global Warming. The current status of pollution and green house gases as well as its impact on not only human beings, but the entire global ecosystem has been the forefront of discussions from the auto industry to the average Joe and Jane's dinner table.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, and it will not be a quiet one!

What's Happening In New York?

Here are a few of the massive events being held in New York City:

EarthFair City of the Future Exhibit

Inside Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal, Earth Day 2010 New York presented a multiple day exhibit from Monday 4/19 through Saturday 4/24 which focused on the "City of the Future", green technology, sustainable fashion and other huge displays.

Also, the Giant Earth Images lit up the walls of Vanderbilt Hall with environmental theme messages, quotes, photographs and images submitted by artists like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Rafal Olbinski, and more. Projected onto two columns in Vanderbilt Hall, the show ran 10 hours a day.

EarthFair Outdoors

On Vanderbilt Avenue, outside on the Westside of the terminal on Earth Day 2010, New York presented a two-day festival of art, music and the environment. A large area that showcased green businesses, organic food and environmental groups included interactive displays that educated and provided a chance to take action for our environment. EarthFair also featured live music including many popular performers and local bands.

What is the Earth Day Network?

"Earth Day Network was founded on the premise that all people, regardless of race, gender, income, or geography, have a moral right to a healthy, sustainable environment. Our mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide, and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle for promoting a healthy, sustainable environment. We pursue our mission through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer activism campaigns. Our campaign and programs are predicated on the belief that an educated, energized population will take action to secure a healthy future for itself and its children. Earth Day Network has a global reach with a network of more than 17,000 partners and organizations in 174 countries. More than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities, making it the largest secular civic event in the world."
