Review by Cheryl Shainmark
This slim memoir is like a little jewel, perfectly faceted and pure in its beauty. God is in the Little Things is a moving testamonial to the author’s spiritual journey, and the wonderous happenings that led to, and accompanied her awakening. Patricia Brooks has truly captured the emotional roller coaster of “the dark night of the soul” and the long road to grace.
As the author traveled that road to she learned to watch for God’s messengers: the animals, domestic and wild, that showed up in startling, sometimes scary, and miraculous ways. While she came from a traditional religious background, in the course of puzzling out what was happening in her life and why she kept having these odd encounters with animals, Patricia Brooks explored new avenues of spirituality including Eastern philosophy and Native American practices. As she learned about animal totems and the connections we all share, her encounters took on new meaning. Learning the lessons sent by God through the animals makes for a remarkable and inspiring book.
