Theologian Matthew Fox believes that studying our mystical ancestors can help us navigate through the uncertainty that 2012 brings. Fox, who is one of the world’s leading scholars on the pre-modern mystics, will explore the lives and teachings of three of them in a nine-week telecourse featuring Hildegard of Bingen, Meister Eckhart and Thomas Aquinas.

“Scholars seem to agree that 2012 is a unique year in our history. One era is ending and a new era is beginning,” says Fox. “There is a lot of talk about consciousness and that’s why I am attracted to the mystics. I consider them to be pioneers in consciousness. They can take us to the edge of our own consciousness.”

Fox’s nine week course, “Mystics: The Pioneers of Consciousness” begins January 26 and will devote three weeks to each of the featured mystics. “All of us are mystics,” says Fox. "By studying our mystical ancestors, we can awaken and activate our mystical selves." Sessions will be held each Thursday night from 5:30-7:00 Pacific Time.

The course will be presented using MaestroConference, an interactive telephone platform that replicates many aspects of a classroom setting. In addition, the course includes an online social media site where participants will have the opportunity for networking and in-depth online conversations.
