The Importance of Sharing Our Metaphysical Experiences

Some time ago the New York Times Magazine section featured a wonderful interview with Barbara Ehrenreich, author of several books including “Nickel and Dimed.” The interview focused on her most recent book, Living With a Wild God, which is a memoir detailing the author’s “dissociative” experiences when she was in her teens. “…The whole world came to life, and the difference between myself and everything else dissolved — but not in a sweet, loving, New Agey way. That was a world flamed into life, is how I would put it.” As I read what Ms. Ehrenreich had gone through, I found myself moved by the story and recognized the pattern of staying silent for years about the strange and wonderful events that had occurred to her.

I too had a wide variety of metaphysical experiences that were inspiring and wild, and for many years I was afraid to share the truth of these mystical events with others. My mother, herself a psychic, had experienced many of these events, and she told me to keep it in the family. So, I stayed quiet for decades afraid of being ridiculed, or thought to be crazy, and not wanting to alienate others. It’s only in the last several years that I’ve felt that it was important, and the right time, to come forward to tell my story.

I think that more and more people are also realizing that it is important to tell their stories and share their experiences. Some, like Barbara Ehrenreich, may have had a health scare or near death experience that left them with a new appreciation for life and a desire to come forward and tell their stories while they are still alive. In the NYT article Ms. Ehrenreich says, “In 2001, I was being treated for breast cancer, and I was pretty sure I was going to recover. But I told myself: OK, Barbara, you could be running out of time much sooner than you thought. If you’re ever going to do anything with this, you better do it.”

Other people, bolstered by new paranormal research and an increased number of books by reputable sources about mystical events, are finding strength in numbers gives them the courage to come clean about their own “other-worldly” experiences. I find myself heartened by this. I firmly believe that if we are to achieve the next great leap in consciousness it will come from first hand experience and stepping forward to tell our own truth.

Counterclockwise: How the Mind Can Reverse Aging

| by Merryn Jose

Some time ago I read a fascinating study about reversing the effects of aging. In 1979, Dr. Ellen Langer, a groundbreaking social scientist, brought together a group of elderly men and had them recreate a week of life in 1959. It seemed that when placed in a setting that replicated the days of their youth, their health improved, and they even looked younger! The men’s muscle strength, dexterity, posture and vision improved, while ailments such as arthritis diminished. It was quite astonishing that all this could happen after only one week. Years later, in 2009, Langer published a wonderful book, Counterclockwise, that tells the story of these men as well as other research she has found that shows how we can turn back the clock on our bodies. It turns out that the mind is the key.

I’ll See You In My Dreams

| by Merryn Jose

Coming from a long line of women gifted with the “Second Sight,” I’ve known since I was a child that there are many ways for the Universe or individual souls to get in touch with you. One of the easiest ways is through our dreams, and I learned years ago to pay close attention to who shows up when I’m sleeping. This is not exactly secret knowledge — there are books about the various types of dreams, such as precognitive, announcement dreams, vision quests, meeting your power animal, and more. Any of Robert Moss’ wonderful books teach the reader about these kind of dreams as well as about lucid dreaming and how to navigate through the different dream worlds.

“Always interested in preventative medicine for myself. I decided to pay a visit to a Holistic Health Exhibition held in London. I spent some time talking with a very enthusiastic sales person about the use of Polarity Screens which is a device that she claims has vastly improved her overall health by using them just twenty minutes twice a day. Personally I found the screens quite remarkable in their simplicity, which allows the body’s self healing mechanism to do all the work.”

The Great Mysteries: Believing, Knowing, & Proving

Growing up, I never thought twice about whether there was an afterlife, or if it was possible to see into the past or the future, or how one could see things and events at a remote distance. My mother was a psychic, as was her mother and her mother’s mother before her. I knew as a child that I had inherited the “second sight”…. As a result, when people asked me whether I believed in things such as life after death, the paranormal, distance healing, or the mind’s ability to affect matter, I would tell them, “I don’t believe it, I know it.”

The Miracle of Castor Oil Packs by Merryn José

Merryn’s personal experience using castor oil packs for healing. ‘What I find most fascinating is that all parts of the castor plant are extremely poisonous to eat, but when the oil is extracted from the seed of the Ricinus communis plant, the poison remains in the seed, and it becomes “the oil that heals.”
