Stories of Hope for Autistic Children

My husband, Julian , and I recently watched the 2010 movie, Temple Grandin , and we were deeply moved by her story and the remarkable progress she has made in her life. From a diagnosis of autism and brain damage at the age of two, Grandin went on to complete a doctorate and, using her own experience as an autistic child, to devise the revolutionary “Hug” machine now used to quiet livestock and autistic children. According to her bio in Wikipedia , in 2010 she was listed in the Time 100 list of the 100 most influential people in the world in the “Heroes” category.

If 50 is the new 30 then why do I have to exercise so much?

I miss the ability to eat at will: sweets and nacho chips, macaroni and cheese, and sour cream on just about anything that wasn’t moving. I miss the metabolism that allowed me to burn off the extra calories with almost no effort. We realized that all life on our beautiful blue planet was deeply connected…

Companies Enlist Academics in the GMO Food Wars

The New York Times reported on Sunday that recently released emails show how food companies, such as Monsanto and organic Stonyfield Farm, have enlisted academics to fight for them in the GMO food war that is currently raging. With the Senate due to vote this fall on a bill that would prevent states from labeling GMO products, the public relations value of an “impartial” opinion is significant.

Near Death Experiences Entering the Mainstream News

As recently featured on Fox News, Near Death Experiences have clearly entered the mainstream and reached the public awareness. One of the most fascinating examples of an NDE is that of New York resident Dr. Tony Cicoria. Cicoria is a practicing orthopedic surgeon, and is Chief of the Medical Staff and Chief of Orthopedics at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, NY. In 1994, when Tony Cicoria was 42 years old, he was struck by lightning near Albany while using a public telephone. He was about a foot away when a rogue bolt of lightning struck. He recalled seeing his own body on the ground surrounded by a bluish-white light…
