November Newsletter
Dear Readers,
The month of November derived its name from the Latin term novem meaning nine, as it was the ninth month of the year under the ancient Roman calendar. Throughout history, this time of the year has been associated with happy gatherings and celebrations. The Egyptians, Greeks and Romans enjoyed festivals, giving thanks for a bountiful harvest.
However, November’s best-known thanksgiving celebration is one that takes place on the last Thursday of this month in homes throughout the United States.
In the autumn of 1621, the Pilgrims invited neighboring members of the Wampanoag Indian Nation to help celebrate and give thanks for a successful harvest that year. In doing so, the Pilgrims, with their Native American neighbors, acknowledged the welcomed outcome of a harvest abundance that could only have grown from the seeds of positive intention, careful planning and faith. Together, they shared in the same consciousness in order to give thanks to a higher being.
