Tom’s Table Tour: Veggie Fest 2007- Annual Festival for Vegetarian Living

Veggie Fest

4S 175 Naperville-Wheaton Road

Naperville, IL 60563

A celebration of vegetarian living takes place every year in a suburb of Chicago. It’s a tour of novel eating, numerous exhibits, fascinating eating, lectures by leading health professional and food authorities, ethnic eating, live music and comedy acts and a genuine experience in the diversity of vegetarian eating. It’s real fun and admission is free!

The Veggie Fest has become a major, annual happening in Chicagoland — I attended the 2007 event in August. This fair meanders over about ten acres, obviously with numerous booths selling all variety of eats — hot & cold, cooked and raw, fast food favorites and ethnic specialties from around the world.

The international food tents were a great adventure. An audience would gather in a tent (numerous choices — Indian, Cuban, Columbian, German….) for an ethnic cooking exhibition right on the spot. Then at the conclusion, we would all sample the creations. This went on all through the day. All for free.

The lecture series offered was relevant and fascinating. Diverse topics presented by MDs, Naturopaths, Chiropractors, alternative medical specialists, and truly knowledgeable natural foods producers. There were booths for free exams and consultations with a variety of health professionals. This too, is all free.

The live music shows and wandering performers were delightful — and created a great environment for all the eating! There was even a children’s program to engage the kids all day long.

As many of you know, I’ve been vegetarian for decades. This was special for me to experience a celebration of my life style!

This event was created and sponsored by an all vegetarian organization called Science of Spirituality on their campus in Naperville, IL.

A virtual tour is available at the Veggie Fest web site: http://veggiefest.sos.org

See you there next Summer!

China Tells Living Buddhas To Obtain Permission Before They Reincarnate

| by Dena Ventrudo (Reviewed by)

In china, the athiest government has banned reincarnation. Beginning next month, the State Administration for Religious Affairs will start establishing conditions regarding “the procedures by which one is to reincarnate.” It will be illegal “to identify the child reincarnation of the Dalai Lama” without the approval of Chinese authorities, according to the Washington Post. This action is aimed at limiting the influence of Tibet’s exiled Dalai Lama, and at restricting the reincarnation of the 72-year-old monk without approval from Beijing. This is one of many measures by the Communist authorities to tighten their grip over Tibet.”

Dogs For Diabetics by Dena Ventrudo

| by Reviewed - Dena Ventrudo

The Armstrong Project, now formally known as Dogs For Diabetics, Inc. began almost seven years ago, when the founder, Mark R., began researching the possibility of training dogs to detect type 1 diabetes related low blood sugar and physically alert the diabetic to the impending drop. His own life was saved by a black labrador puppy named Benton, while he was asleep in a hotel room on his way back from a training center for guide dogs and on his way to Benton’s new blind owner. Benton sensed his blood sugar had dropped dramatically while Mark was sleeping, and the puppy woke him up.
