Help Stop Monsanto by Food Democracy Now

Help Stop Monsanto — from Food Democracy Now: This is Monsanto’s worst nightmare! They said it couldn’t be done, but this month – because of you – the “impossible” has started to happen. Monsanto and big biotech’s control of our food supply is beginning to crumble.

Last week in Oregon, voters in 2 counties voted to ban GMOs from being grown in those counties by a 2 to 1 margin. This historic vote will serve to protect local organic family farms from being contaminated by GMO pollen as well as organic seed. Two weeks ago, the Governor of Vermont signed the first GMO labeling bill into law in the U.S . , which will go into effect on July 1st 2016.

These are huge victories, but we need to keep the pressure on! Right now, voters across the country are fighting to win GMO labeling in their states and they need our help.

Already farmers and activists are out on the streets collecting signatures in Oregon and Colorado to qualify initiatives for the November election and they need your support to get the job done!

Don’t miss this chance to have your gift matched by pitching in whatever you can. Every dollar counts!

Triple your impact before time runs out — we need to hear from you today!

The victories in Vermont and Jackson and Josephine Counties represent a major tipping point in the conversation on GMOs here in the U.S. and Monsanto knows it!

Last year, Connecticut and Maine passed GMO labeling bills, and now activists in 25 states have introduced more than 60 bills to label GMOs. In New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and California they are working to join Vermont to help win labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Earlier this year, Monsanto and the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) introduced a bill in Congress to try to kill GMO labeling for good by making it illegal for states to pass strong mandatory GMO labeling bills and trying to force weak “voluntary” standards on Americans instead. This plan is as devious as it is outrageous and we cannot allow it to stand unchallenged.

In the past 2 years, Monsanto and the GMA have spent more than $70 million to defeat GMO labeling in California and Washington State alone, but they can’t keep us down!

This week in Oregon, a small band of farmers and citizens in Jackson County trounced Monsanto, Syngenta and the chemical cartel by a vote of 66% to 34%, despite being outspent 3 to 1. Incredibly, neighboring Josephine County won by a margin of 58% to 42%, with an impressive grassroots campaign that just stomped GMOs out of the Rogue Valley, a vital nursery for organic non-GMO seed.

Contribute today to make sure we have the resources to take the fight to Monsanto and keep GMOs off your plate. With your help we will win! Click here to donate $10 or more. Every bit counts.

Sale of American Raw Meat to be Banned in 2015

| by Staff

First your milk, and now your meat… Dr. Mercola has written an article about the latest efforts to tamper with our food, and that is the pending FDA legislation to cook, or irradiate all meat products by 2015. Instead of correcting the abysmal conditions under which most animals are kept and slaughtered, the same conditions that lead to sickness and disease, an industry consensus is building toward irradiating all meat before it is packaged for sale to the consumer. www.mercola.com

Avoiding Arsenic in Your Diet

| by Staff

Arsenic, a naturally occurring toxin , is found in a variety of foods and beverages: tap water, chicken meat , brown rice , and apple juice are just a few examples. While the EPA and the FDA have set standards for minimal amonts allowed in food and water, it’s possible that those allowed levels are still too high. Certainly, testing and enforcing compliance are problematic. On the alternative medicine website, www.easyhealthoptions.com , Dr. Isaac Eliaz writes, “Tasteless and odorless, arsenic may appear innocuous enough; but, as you should know, it can be a deadly poison when it’s in your food. In sufficient quantities, the metal increases oxidation, destroys cells’ ability to create energy and ultimately causes major organ failure.
