Meditation, Mystical Experiences & Brain Mapping

I am a huge fan of Dr. Joe Dispenza’s books, CDs and DVDs . First featured on the documentary, What the Bleep Do We Know? this leading neuroscientist and lecturer has written such best sellers as Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One. His latest book, Becoming Supernatural, builds on his previous work.

Recently, I was delighted to come across a wonderful new outlet for Dr. Dispenza’s work: www.quantumworld.tv. On there I found videos and courses featuring Joe Dispenza, Dr. Jeffrey Fannin, and others. In their work they measure, or map the brain during several altered states, such as meditation and other mystical experiences. I was fascinated to see the effects on the brain of these events that I and millions of others have experienced for years — the science and the tools are cutting edge but the phenomena they are measuring are as old as mankind itself!

Seeing how a vision, or the feeling of unconditional love, or the sense of encountering another being in another dimension can alter the brain matches perfectly with my perceptions at the time. I always felt that I was a changed person, that my mind and body were fundamentally different after each event, and now I can see that it is true. The science is finally documenting what we who have experienced such events have always suspected: you are changed on every level.

I’ll See You In My Dreams

| by Merryn Jose

Coming from a long line of women gifted with the “Second Sight,” I’ve known since I was a child that there are many ways for the Universe or individual souls to get in touch with you. One of the easiest ways is through our dreams, and I learned years ago to pay close attention to who shows up when I’m sleeping. This is not exactly secret knowledge — there are books about the various types of dreams, such as precognitive, announcement dreams, vision quests, meeting your power animal, and more. Any of Robert Moss’ wonderful books teach the reader about these kind of dreams as well as about lucid dreaming and how to navigate through the different dream worlds.

Changing Lives: Sharing Our Transformative Experiences

A few weeks ago I wrote about a New York Times interview with Barbara Ehrenreich, author of several books including “Nickel and Dimed.” The interview focused on her most recent book, “Living With a Wild God,” a memoir detailing the author’s transformative experiences when she was in her teens. Having had numerous experiences myself, I found that her account caught my interest. In the last few years I have noted an increase in the number of people stepping forward to tell their sometimes other-worldly stories of wonder, enlightenment, and awe…

A Guide to All Things Metaphysical

People ask me all the time for a list of resources for various metaphysical topics, books, book stores, and societies. I’ve put together a list of them that I share on my website, www.merrynjose.com, but I thought I would offer them to my readers here. This list is dedicated to Alissandra, in aid of her spiritual journey.

Going Beyond Our Genes: Bruce Lipton and the Study of Epigenetics

I first became interested in Bruce Lipton when I saw one of his broadcasts on Conscious TV. I found his lectures on Biology and Belief, and the power we have to affect our genes and DNA, to be absolutely fascinating. The idea that we can “switch off” a gene, or the predispostion to a disease fits with everything I know about the mind-body connection, and everything I believe to be true about the importance of mind over matter.

The Wisdom of Ayurveda

“Ayurveda” is Sanskrit for “Life-Knowledge,” and it is one of the oldest forms of ancient healing still in use today. While most Americans have heard of Ayurvedic medicine by now, few realize how many of our current herbal remedies come from the ancient Vedic texts. For example, the many benefits of eating yogurt, using turmeric and other spices were documented in India over 2000 years ago .

Sunshine, Meditation & Good Eats

| by Merryn Jose

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful two-week long vacation in Sarasota, FL. After some initial sunshine that favored long walks on the beach, the weather turned cold and windy. Instead of sitting outdoors we found we spent more time visiting friends and dining inside at local restaurants and cafes. After my husband Julian did a bit of research online, two of the local eateries, Ionie Retreat & Café, and The Green Zebra Cafe, quickly became our “go to” places for ambience and amazing vegetarian food.

The Bodhi Tree Bookstore

I fell in love with The Bodhi Tree the first time I visited the famous LA store in the late 70s. Stuffed to the brim with rare books, crystals, Tibetan flags, Buddha statues and more, the store quickly became a favorite of mine. The owners invited conversation, browsing, or curling up with a book for hours if you wanted. In an age before Amazon or the Internet, they either stocked or would order any book you desired, and getting the phone call that “your book is in” was always a happy event.
