Ultherapy: The Use of Ultrasound Technology As An Anti-Aging Cosmetic Procedure by Sara Goldstein

With cosmetic surgery so much in the news in recent years, you probably know that there is surgery to remove facial wrinkles, like facelifts, brow lifts, and neck lifts. You probably know about BOTOX Cosmetic injections, which temporarily smooth out frown lines and horizontal forehead lines for a more relaxed and youthful look. You may not know about Ultherapy, and you may well be very interested in it. It is a new treatment that recently received FDA approval for facial rejuvenation. It is non-invasive and easy and is a great alternative to chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing, all of which can be rather uncomfortable, depending on how deeply they have penetrated. Ultherapy does not use a laser; it uses ultrasound. Ultrasound is a sound vibration that we humans cannot hear because it is higher than our sound range. Think of ultraviolet light, which we cannot see because its wavelength is shorter than the violet end of our visible spectrum. But UV rays can affect the skin dramatically and so can ultrasound. How Does Ultherapy Help? When ultrasound is directed below the skin surface to the layer called the dermis, it disturbs that layer with its vibration and a low level of heat. This causes it to react by producing more collagen and tighter new skin cells. By about two months after treatment, the new cells have replaced old cells to give the skin a fresher look and the extra collagen provides more skin support, smoothing out wrinkles. The procedure is about one hour long and you would not need any anesthetic. You would feel some warmth in the skin and perhaps a prickly sensation but not really any discomfort. At first the skin looks pink or flushed but fades to normal within hours. Ultherapy is a “lunchtime” type of procedure in that you can return to work or normal activities immediately. Ultherapy Results After one treatment, you will see some immediate facial rejuvenation. You may want to have two or three treatments, depending on your skin condition to start with.

According to where on your face you had the treatment done, you will enjoy:

– A tightening and lift of the brow line – More youthful, smooth skin on the cheeks or throat – More awake and alert-looking eyes – More even skin coloring – More snugly-fitting facial skin Your particular skin type is not a factor, as Ultherapy works well for all types. It is also very safe, having been used in medicine for more than 50 years for sonography, liposuction, and bone or teeth regeneration, among other things. To view the original article, click here.

Cancer Research: New Science on How to Prevent and Treat Cancer From TEDMED 2010 by Mark Hyman, M.D.

| by Mark Hyman, M.D.

“In the “war” on cancer, we are fighting a losing battle for one simple reason: We’re focusing on the wrong target. As a physician I was trained to focus on the tumor–to burn, poison or cut it out, and then wait, watch and pray for the cancer to stay at bay. Newer gene-targeted treatments will help to improve chemotherapy and improve survival rates, but they won’t prevent cancer in the first place or even prevent it from coming back once you’ve had it. Hope is not the only way to straddle the scary territory between remission and recurrence. There is a different way of thinking about how to treat the system, not just the cancer that holds promise for a proactive approach to helping both prevent occurrence as well as recurrence…”

10 Reasons To Lose Just 10 by Dr. Oz

“Your omentum is the pouch that contains your belly fat. The extra weight you are carrying on your omentum begins to squeeze your kidneys. Your blood pressure raises and your liver fattens; the accumulation of this fat characterizes nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. This added weight leaves your liver unable to process toxins. Over time, your liver hardens, and scar tissue begins to build up to replace liver cells. This scarring is called cirrhosis, which leaves you feeling tired and groggy. Weight loss will allow your liver to recover. As it repairs itself, it decreases the toxins in your body. You’ll see changes in how you feel and behave.”

Overcoming Depression By Trinda Latherow

| by Trinda Latherow

“Happiness was found in the connection to others yes, but also to that which for so long had been forgotten — the spirit or soul of me, the part that connects to an even greater spirit or oneness to which we all belong. It was the spirit of me that had the same needs and desires as those I was reaching out to. I needed to know of my own value and worth. I needed to know of the meaning and purpose to my life. I needed to know the reason for living, for dying, and for all which occurs in between. It was that longing for the truths to our existence that eventually led to uniting the mind, body and soul of me…”
