ECO-Meditation with Dawson Church, PhD

I was very impressed when I read Dawson Church‘s book, Mind to Matter. I had first learned about EFT, the Emotional Freedom Technique, several years ago, even practiced it for awhile, but had lost interest and moved on. Reading this book brought it back in an invigorating new way. Like acupuncture and acupressure, EFT is a set of finger tapping techniques which utilize the body’s energy meridian points. I learned that EFT provides relief from chronic pain, emotional problems, disorders, addictions, phobias, post traumatic stress disorder, and physical diseases. Church’s book provided invaluable links to online resources, including several videos that demonstrate the technique along with meditation.

What I found most interesting was Church’s combination of tapping, Heart Math, and meditation, in a technique he named ECO-Mediation (video).  Instead of taking hours, this method has helped people to reach a relaxed, meditative – even blissful – state in as little as 90 seconds! In just a few minutes, the autonomic system is relaxed, the “fight or flight” response is quieted, and the body begins to release endorphins. This state is the same as that achieved by master meditators with years of experience, but with this method a novice can do it!

Church’s method starts with EFT to clear the emotional state before relaxing. Dr. Mercola wrote that “This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmation works to clear the “short-circuit” — the emotional block — from your body’s bioenergy system, thus restoring your mind and body’s balance, which is essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease.”

Clearing that “short circuit” makes all the difference. After that, Church follows with a combination of deep breathing and Hearth Math that becomes the meditation. When I first tried the ECO meditation, using the video, I found that I quickly dropped into a deep state of relaxation – I don’t know if it’s his soothing voice, or his specific instructions, but it happened so quickly that I was astonished! I would highly recommend this method for people who have trouble meditating, or those who want to take their meditation practice to the next level.
