This June, www.ecowatch.com reported that a coalition including Community Alliance for Global Justice, fishermen, members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 21 and concerned Costco customers rallied in front of the Costco next door to store headquarters and presented more than 300,000 petition signatures demanding that Costco Wholesale publicly commit to not sell genetically modified (GMO) salmon.

Two weeks ago I attended, along with friends Glenna and Lisa, a marvelous seminar at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY. Wayne Dyer, the American self-help author and motivational speaker, just died at the age of 75. His first book, “Your Erroneous Zones,” is one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 35 million copies sold. Dyer, had successfully recovered from leukemia with the help of Brazilian healer, John of God, in 2009. He had just finished an Australian speaking tour and, according to his longtime assistant, died peacefully in his sleep.

Scotland is the latest country to ban growing GM crops within its borders. In a move designed to protect Scotland’s clean pastures, the government announced two days ago that it was banning new cultivation of genetically modified foodstuffs. The Rural Cabinet Secretary, Richard Lochhead, said: “ Scotland is known around the world for our beautiful natural environment — and banning growing genetically modified crops will protect and further enhance our clean, green status…”
