Can We End Alzheimer’s? Dr. Dale Bredesen, and Others, May Have the Answer

Dr. Dale Bredesen is the author of The End of Alzheimer’s, a groundbreaking account of new research and remarkable reversals in cognitive decline that he has facilitated. In a recent interview (video) with Dr. Mark Hyman, he wrote, “My friend and scientist Dr. Dale Bredesen is at the forefront of changing the way we approach neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Dr. Bredesen’s research has led to new insights that explain the erosion of memory seen in Alzheimer’s disease and has opened the door to a new therapeutic approach which uses the power of Functional Medicine.”

The Doctor has developed the Bredesen Protocol (video), a cutting edge comprehensive program designed to reverse cognitive decline. In the course of his research, Dr. Bredesen has identified three different types of Alzheimer’s patients, depending upon their metabolic profiles. With the incidence of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases on the rise, there has been a renewed push to identify the causes and to develop new treatments. From his website we read:

“Cognitive decline is a major concern of the aging population, and Alzheimer’s disease is the major cause of age-related cognitive decline, with approximately 5.4 million American patients and 30 million affected globally[1]. In the absence of effective prevention and treatment, the prospects for the future are of great concern, with 13 million Americans and 160 million globally projected for 2050, leading to potential bankruptcy of the Medicare system. Unlike several other chronic illnesses, Alzheimer’s disease prevalence is on the rise, which makes the need to develop effective prevention and treatment increasingly pressing.”

Dr. Bredesen’s approach involved 25 different interventions which individually don’t make a big difference, but together can provide powerful synergistic benefits. Each intervention is tweaked over time by using blood tests, body measurements, imaging and similar guides to measure its effect. In his initial paper, nine out of ten patients reversed their memory problems and returned to their former healthy level of functioning. The one who didn’t show improvement was past the early stages of Alzheimer’s.

In 2012 Dr. Bredesen participated in an online series Awakening from Alzheimer’s that featured Peggy Sarlin interviewing leading experts such as Dr. Pamela Wartian Smith, David Perlmutter,  Mary Newport (video), and others. The series has been newly updated and released as a video and book of interview transcripts.

Getting off drugs — detoxification, or detox for short — is the first step in overcoming addiction. It is often said to be the first step in the journey of a thousand miles — the long journey of recovery, or living a sane and meaningful life without drugs. Detox is where everyone who tries to overcome addiction begins, and it is the most common addiction “treatment” offered in this country. The sad truth is that detoxification is also where most people who try to overcome addiction stop. They fail to follow detox with relapse prevention, the necessary next step.

Body & Soul: How to Deepen Your (Spiritual) Connection by Sahar Huneidi

| by Sahar Huneidi

Spiritual awareness is really about integrating the two duality forces which exist in many forms and on various levels: the Yin & Yang, the passive &active, the essence & form, spirit & matter – more to the point, body & soul. Once you are aware of the inherent polarity you can begin to understand that as we develop one aspect, spiritual awareness (the soul) or the mind, we must also develop the other complimentary force, the body in order to maintain harmony and balance in our lives; and to strengthen the connection between body and soul.

Reclaiming Your Body: Healing from Trauma & Awakening to Your Body’s Wisdom

While the English language frequently refers to what our bodies know — “gut feelings,” hearts “reaching out” to others, etc. — many of us have learned to ignore, deny, or even mistrust our body’s inherent wisdom. Even worse, a lot of people don’t like their bodies very much at all. As a result, we often cut ourselves off from one of our greatest allies. In Reclaiming Your Body: Healing from Trauma and Awakening to Your Body’s Wisdom, author Suzanne Scurlock-Durana provides the tools and guidance necessary to reconnect with our body’s inner guidance system of sensation, imagery, and inner knowing. Her book includes chapters for each main “wisdom area” of the body — the heart, gut, pelvis, legs and feet, bones, and brain — and explores each area’s unique roles in the process of developing full-body presence.

Crystal Healing – Getting Up Close & Personal With Your Stones

| by Nia Kallhof

Over the last seven years as a Crystal Resonance Therapist (CRTh) I have learned that the more I work with and open to my stones, the more I understand how much they are teaching me. Most importantly my crystal allies have taught me how to perceive, hold and transmit energy. Because each stone holds a very clear steady coherent energy field which is unique to itself, they are great teachers of what energy feels like to me personally. I can take my time and fully tune into, and resonate with, that particular vibration.
