Carrageenan: Natural, But Not Good For You

Carrageenan, derived from seaweed, is natural as the day is long, and appears in all kinds of organic “good for you” foods and beverages. But is it really healthful? For that matter, is it even necessary? Used to thicken and emulsify foods and drinks such as nutritional shakes, dressings, yogurt, chocolate, soups and more, carrageenan is increasingly popping up in many diet and organic foods. The problem is that research shows that carrageenan may cause inflammation, contribute to irritable bowel syndrome and gut irratation, and may cause cancer.

Typhoon Haiyan, with winds exceeding 200 MPH has killed over 1,500 people and left thousands more homeless. Fortunately, the Philippine President, Benigno Aquino, recently lowered the estimated death toll by several thousand, but with power and communication knocked out in so many areas getting information out, or relief aid in, is very difficult.

The constitution of the United States was based on many of the premises stated in the Iroquois constitution. But they left out the great law of the Iroquois confederacy, which states that “ In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next 7 generations.” We are feeling the effects of that omission very strongly today.
